Piece number 171 (10/29/07). This was another suggestion from my husband. I first thought this was going to be an easy subject - then I started doing the research. Blueberries look basic, but have a lot going on. Plus I LOVE this color of paper - it is a lot more vibrant in real life.

Piece number 170 (10/27/07). It’s been a week and now it’s time for another installment of Illustration Friday with the theme being “Trick or Treat”. I was careful with the subject today, because I have done a few costume based pieces recently and I have a special Halloween piece already in mind. It worked out well, because I see this scene every Halloween and it always super cute!

I am happy to be at the 170 mark - this means reaching the 200 point is within reach.

As a note to other Illustration Friday participants - what style do I fit best in? Right now I list under medium: collage - style:realistic. You think I should be in a different style?

Piece number 169 (10/25/07). I saw these things in the grocery store and thought they were so interesting to look at. They were a bit expensive to try being that I am not a huge artichoke fan (unless in dip form). This piece was a lot of work, but fun at the same time.

Day 168: Princess >> Original Post <<

Piece number 168 (10/24/07). I was planning on doing a princess this holiday season (Halloween) before Peter made the suggestion. When I think of a princess I instantly go to Disney movies. I am not sure if I did that before my niece was born or not. I am quite pleased with her dress and LOVE her hair. I want my hair to look like that, except red.

Piece number 167 (10/23/07). This one was done because it was suggested by my friend Jen. When the big cicada invasion happened a few years ago, I was petrified. In my mind is was going to be a bad horror movie with the cicadas being the size of school buses. I was happy that was not the case. They were annoying, but they were amazing to watch. My friend Michelle and I watched a few of these guys coming out of their previous body - it was mighty interesting.

Piece number 166 (10/22/07). I am pretty happy with how this one came out. I like the colors, the texture, and the composition. I spent time texturing the paper just right. This small image does not do the colors of the actual work justice.

Figuring out the balance of detail to use with regards to the size of the final piece is something I have had to figure out as I have gone along with my style. This is a great example of that. If I made individual features on his body or breast it would have been way too busy for a postcard size work.

I have gotten to scan in this past weeks works. So, the photos have been replaced with nice clean scans. In case you did not know these works were all created while stationed in my dad’s hospital room - so the situation was not ideal.
