So I have been getting ready to move a bunch of my stuff into my studio. I went out and purchased a grid wall and set that up. I have a chair and a small bookcase in there now. Today I spent a chunk of time going through my paper and separating my stash into a keep here pile and a studio pile. I now have one of my paper racks clean and I am surprised at how emotional it is making me. It is freaking me out to see the one rack empty. I know this move it a wonderful thing - but it is such a major move. I know it is the right thing for me to do know to help me move forward with my work - but it does not make the knot in my stomach go away. I am guessing tomorrow IF theme may be the first piece created in my new studio!

{click the image for a larger view} 02/25/08. I worked a long time tonight on my Illustration Friday piece with the theme of “multiples”. My husband suggested nesting dolls as a joke - but I thought it was a cool idea. I was in the mood to do something a bit more graphic than my usual works. I am quite happy with this, but my hand is paying the price! The small one on the right is just over an inch, the body is about 3/4″ tall. All the dolls are made of 2 pieces of paper - head and body.
4″x 9″:: $150 framed original piece. Once the original sells, limited edition digital prints (of 100) will be available for $25 (unframed)

On another note. It is official I am an artist in residence! I turned in my contract today and picked up my keys. I hope to get my studio set up this weekend.

02/22/08. This was something I made to finish up a piece I am working on to be turned into a mini cooper roof graphic. All the pieces are inset together. Day 178 - Rally Mini is supposed to be turned into a roof graphic, but I felt once it got to be actual size, it needed a little something. The flag will be photo-shopped into the sky area ONLY for the roof graphic production. I’ll let you know when it is finished and available for purchase from a vinyl retailer.
5″x 2.75″ (actual size of flag, mounted on larger white paper with a signature) :: $50 unframed original piece. Email for availability and payment directions or for more information - like larger and more detailed images.

{click the image for a larger view} 02/21/08. I finally finished my piece for Illustration Friday’s theme of “theory”. Every discovery is based on a theory! It all starts from one persons idea. It took me a while to get this done - but worth it. The one view through the microscope is completely inset - takes a lot of careful cutting and not losing the pieces, but worth it. I am making this the sister piece to “Day 100 - Discovery” (also an illustration friday theme)
4″x 6″:: $150 framed original piece. Once the original sells, limited edition prints (of 100) will be available for $25 (unframed)

So I have started on “theory” and I expect it should be finished tomorrow. This one used quite a bit of insets which take a lot of time to create - though they really do look good once completed.
So on a good news front. I GOT THE STUDIO SPACE!!!!!! Now I still have official papers to sign, but I was notified today that the space is mine. Once all the t’s and crossed and i’s dotted I will give more info and some photos. I am still going to keep the studio in the house - but I the new studio space will be where I do most of the work. I am really excited about this. YEAH!
On an unrelated note - everything I own is sticky. I seem to always have glue on my hands. Most everything I own has some sort of paper stuck to it. There are just little bits all over the house.

So I was really dumb tonight and now am paying the price. I was preparing dinner and cut one of my fingertips pretty bad with a serrated knife. Luckily it is on my left hand, but it one of my gripper fingers, can’t cut anything w/o it. Took about an hour to get the bleeding to stop - but it smarts! I deserved it, I was being dumb and not using a cutting board. Before anyone says it - I am hanging my head in shame. I rarely cut myself while working on my art, but I am not so careful in the kitchen. Though on the upside my dinner was quite good (and bloodless).
I am working on the backend for this week Illustration Friday’s theme and will get back to work on it when my finger stops throbbing.

Tonight I surprised my husband with special Valentine’s Day calzones. I went and cut all the pepperoni into hearts. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!!!!!!!

I did turn in my studio application this morning and am going to get another application finished tonight.
February 14, 2008
I finally finished my application for the studio space. I’ll be turning it in tomorrow morning - a whole day before the deadline! I also am halfway through with application for a “Works on Paper” juried show. I really do want both of these opportunities (as well as everything else I have submitted applications and proposals too). It took me several hours just to pick out the works to submit to this show. I am also catching up on some sleep. Tonight will be the second night in a row I am asleep before midnight - I am needing this sleep.
As to artwork - I am going to focus my energy right now on working on the children’s book. That is my main art focus - I need to buckle down and work on it. I want to have a final book done by the end of the year. I also have another piece from my Masters group which I want to get done, when I have something visual to share I’ll let you know the subject
