113008 – Pinup Status

{click for a larger image} I went back in the studio and made a lot more progress assembling the rug. I am quite amazed, I have not run out of pieces yet. Though tomorrow I am sure I will have to start cutting more.

112908 – Pinup Status

{click for larger image} Spent several more hours assembling the rug. So far I have not used all of the pieces I have cut, but am pretty sure I will run out tomorrow. I now have 5″ done on the right and 2″ on the left – it is a lot, but I have A LOT to go.

112808 – Pinup Status

So I spent another few hours working on the rug assembly. I was wrong about something – it takes 2x as long to assemble as to cut. I have gotten roughly 3.5″ done on the right side.

112408 – Pinup Status

I went in and cut in 2 sessions today. I was hoping to make it in for a third, but I am so tired and my hand is a bit sore in places, so I think I will call it a day and not go back today. My husband brought up another good point about how thick this rug will be when assembled so I think I have enough on hand to start assembly and see how all the pieces lay.

Just more cutting. I came to the sad realization today that putting all these piece together is going to take twice as long as it takes me to cut them. I need to get this done and photographed, so I have the image ready in time to submit to a show in Seattle.

Cut more pieces for the shag carpet – I am expecting to need A LOT of these and I can only cut so many in one sitting without my hand paying the price. I cut 673 today and my one knuckle is red and swollen.

112008 – Pinup Status

So today it was only a quick trip to the studio. I got the fingernails cut and I started cutting pieces for the rug. I am going to attempt to keep track of how many pieces it takes to create – I am guessing it will need several 1000. I got 80 pieces cut already and think the negative piece is really interesting. I built up a small area to see if thei will work and it works and I think looks pretty good. Sorry for the bad photos – I left my camera at home and had to use my cellphone.

111908 – Pinup Status

{click for larger image} I was motivated to get this done and went in and re-did the arm and the sleeve on the pinup. I had planned for my birthday to be a wonderful lazy day – but I could not get this out of my mind – the arm was bugging me. The hand is missing fingernails – but it is a huge improvement with the new hand. I replaced the bear claw with actual fingers…. Sorry for the bad photography, had to run out of the studio and this was the best I was able to get. Now tomorrow I will add the fingernails and start on the rug.
