Taking a bit of a vacation
I have taken a few days off from working in the studio. Though have been going in and getting some framing done – after a big sheet of broken glass yesterday I did get one of the Beauty Rituals into a nicer home – getting 5 of the series ready to be hung next week at the Howard County Center for the Arts show – “Fluid Identity”. After these get into frames I have to start framing one-a-(week)day works – looks like I need to frame an average of 4 a day to get everything behind glass in time.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. I may be jewish, but I always enjoy seeing Santa – he rode by on the fire truck last night and waved.

122108 – the pinup seems never to be completed

{click for a larger image} Spent time working with the photos that were taken last week. Here is a good shot of the detail that makes up the piece. I think this shows that the piece is 3-d with all the layers. I am working on getting a few pieces to submit to a group show in Los Angeles, CA. I hope they like my work and invite me to show. I find with my work it is not the easiest to capture with photos, which makes it hard to understand that it is made of 1000’s pieces of paper.
Add another wrench into my progress – my printer is not being cooperative. I want to print out the images on the CD for the application and the colors are not being represented accurately. My printer has worked wonderfully for several years and this is overly frustrating. I have given up fiddling with it for the night.

121708 – Photographing Pinup
Tonight I went into the studio with a good friend of mine and we worked at photographing the Pinup work for juried show submissions. We got some great shots tonight which really showcase the detail. I hope to get a chance to process them tomorrow and I will post when ready.

121508 – Nutcracker

{click for a larger image} This was a fun piece to make. The background is also completely created using insets as well as most of the body itself. I think I drew around 20 pairs of legs – and think I finally got it right, I did a lot of googling to check out different nutcrackers.
5″ x 7″ framed with UV glass. $200 – Email me if interested in the piece or would like to see some more detailed photos.

121408 – Nutcracker
{click for a larger image} Day 1 (of hopefully only 2) of my new piece “Nutcracker”. This was something that I would be fun to do. I could not get the feet just right, so I decided to break for the night and will hopefully finish it tomorrow. Since most of details on nutcrackers are painted on, most of the pieces are inset into one another. It is slower to create – but worth it in the end.

121308 – Pinup Completed
Today I went in and finished the pinup. I spent another bit of time just fine tuning the bottom edge – it is now safely protected so it can “cure” for a few weeks. I will be getting a professional photograph soon which I will post. I am submitted this to a show on the West coast – so everyone keep their fingers crossed for me.
Since the piece took quite some time to create I made this little slideshow of the process.
