033109 – Pinup 2

{click image for a larger version} Pinup2 is completed and I love it! Again the wonderful photographer at Atomic Cheesecake Studios is genius behind the fabulous original photo and I am so grateful to be working with her images. I really enjoy working with pinups as a subject and plan to continue creating more.
I was able to scan the artwork in several pieces and put together in photoshop. The image needs a bit of work, but this is quite accurate. So the color shift in the background is due to the merge and will be fixed. I am going to get this so I can create a print of it.
The piece is roughly 14″ x 22″. I have not set the price on this – but if interested in this piece or other works feel free to send me an Email.

033009 – Misc. Updates
I spent a good portion of day at the Montpelier Arts Center working with the take down and art pickup for the Laurel Art Guild’s annual show. It was sad to see the show came down – I think the show was fantastic. This was the first show I have coordinated and it could not have gone better. I want to thank everyone at Montpelier for helping and doing such a wonderful job with the install. Also want to thank the guild for helping me work through things and most importantly to all the wonderful artists that made the show so amazing.
Also I last week I talked with a gallery and have secured another show. In January 2010 I will be showing some work at the R. Coury Fine Art in Historic Savage Mill (8600 Foundry St., Suite 217A in Savage, Maryland). The gallery is wonderful and such a great feel to it. it is run by a great artist, Jill Hackey and showcases some great artwork from area artists. Right now the work from Sean Welker is being featured. His work looks wonderful and includes a set of pieces which showcase cupcakes. His run runs to May and I would recommend people checking it out.

I did not make as much progress as I had hoped for today, but I am quite happy with what I did do. I am onto the hair and that will take me a bit. I am going to try the same technique for the hair as I did with the first pinup.

My new paper arrived and I hit the ground running. I made a lot more progress on this today than I expected. I spend a lot of time planning out pieces before cutting and it really paid off for this piece.
–close up– (click to see it larger)

So the gold of the bathing suit was the main paper I was waiting for – it is a matte metallic gold and I LOVE it! With this in I was able to pick out the colors for the work – and here is what have come up with.

I have gotten quite a few people ask me how do I keep track of my paper and how many different colors and kinds do I have. Well this is my paper ring. When I get paper I cut off a square and put the bar code/label on it or write the paper manufacturer and color code on it so I can keep track. I generally use my ring to pick out my paper and then rummage through my paper rack until I find it.

032209-Subtract

{click images for larger versions} This is a 2-part artwork. With the Illustration Friday theme of “subtract” it got me thinking. I wanted to do a work that was created using the pieces that remain after cutting out the pieces used to create the literal piece. So the top work is “fashion” and the lower work is “subtract fashion”. I am planning on framing them together vertically.
They are different sizes. Not sure what the final framed dimensions will be.
Fashion is about – 2.75″ x 7.5″
Subtract Fashion is about – 7″ x 10″

I have been waiting for my paper to arrive, so I decided to start a new piece. This is based on the illustration theme of “subtract”. The piece is in 2 parts and this is part 1. Once part two is completed the theme will make sense. Part 2 is experimental….
I videotaped this part being completed and I will post it once I get it all edited.
The kicker – I sat around all week waiting for my new paper for Pinup and once I am on my way to the studio to work on this – I find my paper got delivered today.

031809- Not much to report
Sadly, it appears mt new paper has not shipped yet. I really hope it goes out tomorrow – I was looking forward to working on this week. I spent most of my day waiting for the UPS man. I have replaced my 5+ year old printer with essentially the same thing, it was to be delivered today. After I see the UPS man pass by the window I run downstairs to find a package notice. I need the printer today to get some work done. So I put on my shoes and run after him- I see him down the street. I am out of shape and slow and di not get to him in time. After a call to UPS and receiving no help I hopes in my car and drove around my neighborhood in the hopes of finding him. I was about to give up when I see his truck in my area community center. His truck was there, but ot him – so I waited. He comes outs and I tell him about my mad dash and he laughs at me a bit (still breathing hard) and he was quite awesome to give me my package. it turns out he was waiting their for a pickup – normally he would have been someone else – so I got real lucky.
Printer is working great and I got what I printed out and am working on something different. Think I’ll be able to share some pics tomorrow. Just as well I am doing this ‘busy work’ it is building up my knuckle callouses.
