073109 – Pinup4 status

073109-pinup4-status
Did not get a lot of studio time due to my workload today, but I did make good progress with the amount of time I had. I got the shoes done and the tire iron – it is starting to come together nicely. Tomorrow and Sunday I hope to make A LOT or progress on this!!!!

I was able to get the shirt done today. It is coming along nicely. I used the same technique I used in the previous pinup of layering paper behind where clothing folds and wrinkles to give it all more dimension.

072809 – Pinup4 Status

Not as much progress as I hoped. I got the skin cut out and the stockings. I want the stockings to works using opaque papers – not translucent ones – so the colors and textures are super important. I think I picked  a nice combination to work with. The reason the legs are doubled is because one is a leg and the other is a stocking. I dont want any weird shadows to ruin the lines of the body.

072709- Pinup4

072709-pinup4-drawing
Pinup4 has started. I hope to get 12 of these done in total this year – so I need to get moving! This piece has some challenges I have not completely figured out (the tire and the ruffled underwear) but I know I’ll figure the best way to cut them. I am excited to get working on this.

Here is my color palette.  I have not chosen a background paper/color or tire papers – but the other colors are chosen.

072609 – Pinup3 (inverse) completed

Pinup3 (inverse) is completed. I am quite happy with the results. The wheel parts did fit together perfectly, but that looked odd with the rest of the piece, so I took them and worked them to make them match the pieces overall feel. (Pinup 3  – original version)

Email me for more information about the work if interested. The work is roughly 13″ x 26″ and will go into a 25″ x 30″ frame. The piece costs $1250.

UPDATE 07/30/09– Posting this for this week’s Illustration Friday theme of “modify”. Thought this was a good fit for a few reasons.

072409 – Pinup 3 Inverse status

I made a lot more progress. I really only have the wheel left to complete and full assembly. I am happy with how this is all coming together.

072209 – Pinup 3 status

072209-pinup3-status
So I got back in the studio and started to work on the inverse of Pinup3. I made a decent amount of progress until I realized I could not find her legs or hair paper. So I worked with the pieces I could find. After some searching I was able to find the missing papers – so I hope tomorrow I can get another good chunk of this together.

Here is a cool detail shot of one of the remade shoes – it might be my glasses (instead of contacts) messing with me – but this really pops off the background!

071709 – Artomatic is officially over

071709-aom-over
My work is down and my wall is back how it started – empty. It took me awhile to get all the staples out and I did bang my hand many many many times. It was a lot easier to get the paper home than to the site, it folded up neatly in my suitcase. (You had to take your trash out with you).

So I thought it would be fun to show my AOM walls throughout the years. You can see I still use the same fonts for my lettering.  It goes from 2009 – 2008 – 2004-2002. This year I cut out my lettering as a banner – so I am going to attempt to reuse it for my next display. I am also thinking of the next display – as long as I start early enough I think I pull off what is in my head.

as a note – 2002 as my first AOM and I showed my first cut paper work – Beauty Ritual #1 along with some oldr works I did in college. The wires were attached to the wall and could not move them, so I used them. This year a fellow artist on one of my shifts was one of the artists who shared this exhibition room with me at AOM 2002 and he remembered me – it was a nice flashback.

071509-Cages

071509-cages

So here is the finished piece. I am not sure exactly how I feel about it. I was doing this to get my cutting hand back into shape, but it still did not turn out  how it did in my mind. I was hoping to hang this in DCAC Wall Mountables show – but I am not sure I will. I really liked how I framed it – building a frame shadowbox inside of the frame.

It is 20″ x 20″ framed Email me if interested or would more information or better photos.

the art

All my artwork is made of paper. It is only created using paper, glue, and patience. The works on this site represent the pieces that I am attempting to create each weekday. These pieces are available to purchase and once an original is sold prints will become available. Other work can be viewed on my main site - www.sagworks.com. Larger works are available to purchase as originals or prints through sagworks.com. I am also available for commissioned pieces.
